Africa
The continent of Africa is surrounded by the Mediterranean Sea to the north, the Suez Canal and the Red Sea to the northeast, the Indian Ocean to the southeast, and the Atlantic Ocean to the west. It straddles the equator and encompasses a number of different climate areas; it is the only continent to stretch from the northern temperate to southern temperate zones. After Asia, it is the world's second-largest and second most-populous continent, with more than 900,000,000 people and 14% of the world's human population. Stretching across 30,221,532 sq km (11,668,545 sq mi), it covers 6.0% of the Earth's total surface area, and 20.4% of the total land area.
Africa is a vast continent of contrasts. Including such delights as deserts that stretch as far as the eye can see, lush green landscapes, a coastline with golden beaches and raging white water torrents in the river Zambezi. These all combine to make Africa one of the most rewarding yet underrated holiday experiences of all.
From the atmospheric souks of North Africa and Tunisia and Morocco to the exotic flora and fauna of Tanzania, Africa opens up a multitude of horizons for visitors, whether you're looking for the chance to glimpse the 'big 5', relax on a tropical beach or take an energetic trek up Mt. Kilimanjaro.
