Getting There and Travelling Around

International Airports

Internal Transport

There are both air and ferry connections between each of the islands.

All the islands have tarred roads, although 4-wheel-drive vehicles are advisable for outlying islands and in the interior, particularly during the rainy season. Many roads are narrow and domestic animals often roam freely, so travellers should drive slowly. Car hire is only available on Ngazidja (Grande Comore), whilst bush taxis (taxis-brousses) are available on all the islands. Share-taxis provide transport in and around towns.

Visitors can hire sailing craft, motorboat, and canoes in port towns and villages. This can be especially useful for Mwali (Mohéli) where the road system is rudimentary.
