Internal Transport
There is an efficient network of chartered and scheduled services from Mahé to many of the islands, and there are also helicopters that provide an inter-island shuttle service and scenic flights. There are a number of schooners that offer connections between Mahé, Praslin and La Digue, and boats may also be chartered privately to get to the other islands.
There are a limited number of cars or Mini Mokes for hire on Mahé and Praslin, and visitors would be wise to book in advance, especially in the high season. Bicycles may also be hired on La Digue and Praslin.
Only Mahé, Praslin and La Digue have any paved roads; all the other islands simply have sandy tracks. There is a speed limit of 65 kph (40 mph) on the open road, decreasing to 40 kph (25mph) in built-up areas and throughout Praslin. Visitors should be aware that Mahé is mountainous with narrow, winding roads, rarely with safety barriers.
There is a regular bus service on Mahé and Praslin and a number of coaches for airport transfers and excursions. There are also some independently operated taxis on Mahé, Praslin and La Digue, with Government-controlled rates.
