Food and Drink

Local specialities include bream, Nile perch and other freshwater fish. Traditional foods include:

  • Dobe (fresh maize)
  • Inswa (termites)
  • Ifishimu (caterpillars)
  • Chiwaya cho kazinga (roasted maize)
  • Nshima (ground maize - also known as mielie-meal)
  • Vimbombo va nkhuku ( a delicacy made from chicken's feet)
  • Munkoyo (a fermented root and corn powder drink)

Imported beers and soft drinks are available.
