The Daily News, Evening Observer, The Island and The Daily Mirror newspapers are published in English. Daily Sinhala papers include Dinamina, Lakbima and Lankadeepa, whilst Uthayan and Virakesari are daily Tamil publications.

The state-owned Sri Lanka Rupavahini Corporation (SLRC) operates two television channels: Rupavahini and Channel Eye. Independent Television Network (ITN), another state broadcaster, operates Sri Lanka's first TV station. Popular private television networks include ETV, ART TV, Sirasa TV (Sinhala), TNL (English), Shakthi TV (Tamil), MTV (English) and Swarnavahini (Sinhala). Global television networks from India, Southeast Asia, Europe and America are also widely popular, and cable and satellite television is gaining popularity.

The national radio station, Radio Ceylon is the oldest-running radio station in Asia. It was established in 1923, just three years after broadcasting was launched in Europe. The station is managed by the Sri Lanka Broadcasting Corporation and broadcasts services in Sinhalese, Tamil, English and Hindi. Since the 1980s, a large number of private radio stations such as Sirasa FM,Yes FM, Shree FM, Shakthi FM, TNL Rocks (English-language) and Sun FM (English-language) have also gained commercial popularity and success.
