Provinces
The Republic of China currently administers Taiwan Province (the island of Taiwan and the Pescadores Islands), Fujian (Fukien) Province (some 20 offshore islands including Quemoy and Matsu), and centrally administers two cities.
The two provinces have been effectively streamlined in administration, leaving the two centrally administered municipalities (Kaohsiung Municipality (also administering Dongsha Islands and Taiping Island of the South China Sea Islands) and Taipei Municipality), 5 provincial municipalities, and 18 counties as the principal divisions of the Republic of China.
Taiwan Province
Consists of the island of Taiwan (except the two municipalities shown above) plus Penghu County (Pescadores Islands) and a number of outlying islands. The 16 counties within Taiwan Province are (capitals shown in brackets):

- Hsinchu County (Jhubei City)
- Hualien County (Hualien City)
- Kaohsiung County (Fongshan City)

Its 5 provincial cities are:

Fukien Province
Consists of several islands offshore of the Chinese mainland. Its 2 counties are:
- Kinmen County (Quemoy)
- Part of Lienchiang County, namely Matsu
Additionally, the ROC has not officially renounced its claims over mainland China and Mongolia. This results in a division of the mainland into 35 provinces, different from that of the current PRC system.
