Spanish influences combined with local produce. Typical examples are:

• pastelon (baked vegetable cake)
• la bandera (rice, red beans, stewed meat with salad)
• chicharonnes de polio (small pieces of seasoned, fried chicken)
• sopa criolla dominicana (soup of meat and vegetables)

Local rum and beer are very good.
