Climate

Croatia has a mixture of climates. In the north and east it is continental, Mediterranean along the coast and a semi-highland and highland climate in the south-central region.

In Zagreb (elevation 163 m), in the southwestern part of the Pannonian Basin, average temperatures are at their lowest in January at 0°C (with a minimum of -2°C and a maximum of 4°C), and their highest in July, at 22°C (with a minimum of 16°C and a maximum of 27°C). Rainfall averages from 5 to 9 cm a month, with the greatest amounts falling in May/June and October/November, and the lowest amounts falling in January to March.

In Split (elevation 128 m), on the eastern shores of the Adriatic Sea, average temperatures are at their lowest in January at 8°C (with a minimum of 5°C and a maximum of 10°C), and their highest in August, at 25°C (with a minimum of 22°C and a maximum of 30°C). Rainfall averages from 3 to 13 cm a month, with the greatest amounts falling in November/December, and the lowest amounts falling in July and August.
