Good Time to Visit

Weather
Greece has a warm Mediterranean climate with dry hot summers (April-September), relieved by stiff breezes, especially in the north and coastal areas. Winters are mild in the south but much colder in the north. Most rain falls between November-March; the average annual rainfall in Athens is 41 cm.
Visitors are advised to bring lightweight clothing during summer months, with plenty of protection from the midday sun. Waterproofs are advised for autumn and winter. Heavier clothes will be needed during the winters, and temperatures can be quite cold, especially in the northern mainland.
For more detailed information of the Greek weather may be found in Climate in Greece.
Festivals
Carnivals are held between February and March, with feasts and dancing. Easter is the most religious of festivals. Mid-June to late September sees the Hellenic Festival host drama and music events in Greece's many ancient theatres. Once a year, as a role reversal on 8 January, men stay at home to do the housework, women drink in cafes.
