Food and Drink

Meat and seafood is of good quality. Typical national dishes include:

  • empanadas (filled pastries)
  • humitas (seasoned corn paste, wrapped in corn husks and boiled)
  • cazuela de ave (soup with rice, vegetables, chicken and herbs)

Chile is known for pisco, a powerful grape liqueur and its wine from regions such as Casablanca, Maipo and Rapel. These include soft, juicy Merlot and Cabernet; toasty, tropically fruited Chardonnay and crisp, tangy Sauvignon Blanc. (Find out more about Chile's wine regions in the Wine Resource Centre).
