Regions
Venezuela is divided into twenty-three states (estados), a capital district (distrito capital) corresponding to the city of Caracas, the Federal Dependencies (Dependencias Federales, a special territory), and Guayana Esequiba (claimed in a border dispute with Guyana). The states are grouped into nine administrative regions (regiones administrativas), which were established by presidential decree, and are shown in the list below.
